I always get questions about how to make matcha and whether it’s easy to make. It is simple to make once you have the right tools – I will show you two different ways to make it so that you have a smooth texture for your lattes / teas.

Which matcha should I get?
Of course, high quality matcha will not only give you a better taste, but also a better color. Anything above the $25 range will give you quality matcha. You can find these at a Japanese grocery store / market near you. If not, you can find these on Amazon along with cheaper options:
Affordable Options:
Jade Leaf Organic Green Tea Matcha
A personal favorite that my Japanese mother uses
Higher Quality:

How do I store it properly?
Make sure to store it in an air-tight lid out of the sun. Matcha is extremely reactive to light so make sure you avoid storing it in a glass jar.
Let’s talk equipment
You have two options for equipment, traditional equipment and a modern mechanical frother.
Traditional Equipment
-Bowl
-Bamboo Whisk
-Scooper
-Sift
You can find the equipment on Amazon here
Alternative Equipment
Let’s put it altogether with traditional equipment
- Heat 75 mL of water to 80 degrees celcius or just let the water simmer (DO NOT USE BOILING WATER)
- Take a scoop of matcha powder and sift it through your sifter and into your bowl
- Add a small amount of water and whisk the matcha
- TIP: Make sure to whisk the matcha in an up-down motion or a zigzag motion, NOT in a circle
- Add 70 mL of your hot water in the bowl
- Whisk the matcha and added water thoroughly
- TIP: You’ll know when the matcha is ready once the top is becomes foamy
- Pour and enjoy
Let’s put it altogether with modern equipment
- Pour water up to the line in your milk frother/steamer
- Add a scoop of match powder (no need for a sift)
- Turn your steamer/frother ON
- Pour and enjoy
